INSPIRING SCHOOLS TO IMPROVE BY AWARDING THEM AN A+
The Department of Basic Education has introduced School Improvement Plans (SIP) to focus attention on school improvement, in line with the Annual National Assessments. The A+ Schools Campaign is designed to support school leaders and their schools in developing these plans, by encouraging them to enter the A+ Schools challenge to improve their schools and provides a motivational Box of Stars to empower the school leader in motivating teachers and learners.
INTRODUCING THE A+ SCHOOLS CAMPAIGN AND BOX OF STARS
Each school leader receives an Achiever Notebook with guidelines on developing a School Improvement Plan and a call to enter the A+ Schools Campaign to win resources, leadership development and motivational training for their schools. These entries are then judged by an independent judging panel and the ideas from the entries are shared with educational leaders, to inform school improvement plans.
Each school leader also receives a Box of Stars resource toolkit, to empower the school leader to inform, involve and inspire teachers and learners. The whole school approach to motivating leaders, teachers and learners creates energy in the schools, as each group takes ownership for the success of their school and improving the quality of their education.
